Charles S.L. Baker was an inventor who is best known for patenting the friction heater. This photo, taken in 1904, showcases his heating radiator system. He started his company, The Friction Heat & Boiler Company, that same year and eventually worked up to $136,000, which is equivalent to $4 million in 2018.

Hanukkah Menorah Defying The Nazi Flag, 1932

This photo was taken by Dr. Akiva Posner’s wife Rachel. When Dr. Posner looked out his window to see this Nazi flag displayed on a public building. He placed his family’s menorah on the windowsill in order to defiantly and proudly show his family celebrating Hannukah and lighting the candles. Rachel snapped this now iconic photo, saying “Death to Jews, the flag says. The Jewish people will live forever, the light answers.” The photo is now displayed at Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem.
