Alcatraz was created to be inescapable, and everyone believed that escape was absolutely impossible. The building itself was lcoated on a private island, so this made theory complete sense.
However, the San Francisco Police Department got a confession letter in 2013 from the purported escapees! This shocked them to their cores, and it provided full details about how the criminals planned and achieved their goals. This is how they did it.
