JFK Going Door to Door In West Virginia, 1960

Campaign and going on the trail is no new concept, and JKF was photographed here doing just that. This was taken in the middle of the Democratic Primary during the 1960 Presidential race. Knowing that West Virginia was not a strong state for him due to his being a Roman Catholic, JFK decided to visit on the ground. This helped make the difference and he won the state.

Hopi Tribe Members, 1912

The Hopi tribe are native to Northeastern Arizona. The tight knit tribe were not allowed to marry outside of their tribe, helping preserve their community and culture. This Hopi girl agreed to be photographed in 1912, giving us a look at traditional clothing and the squash blossom hairstyle that indicates that she is of marrying age.
