2017’s sequel to Blade Runner, which is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was actually nominated for 5 Academy Awards, however, it still lost about $80 million.
Supernova (2000)
Supernova from the year 2000 is another example of a remake that ended up costing studios a fortune. MGM lost $83 million total. The film started out with Walter Hill as its director, but he ended up quitting halfway through the project, with him demanding that his name be removed completely from the project.
