No one could imagine anyone else playing Granny. Irene Ryan did a great job, though the producers did consider Bea Benaderet for a while. They thought she was too large and busty to play a roadkill-eating grandmother, and she didn’t take offense!

Most people already knew Buddy Ebson from the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In fact, he played someone similar to the Jed Clampett character. That’s part of the reason he got the leading role in The Beverly Hillbillies just a year later.
