One of the best parts of shopping at Trader Joe’s, apart from the wonderful prices, is exploring the new items that are always popping up on the shelves. It really makes food shopping into an exciting adventure instead of the usual mundane bore that it can be. While some of these new exciting items become so popular that they become mainstays, some are only limited edition, so try to hurry and try them out before they disappear. Here are some of the most interesting items you can try out for yourself.
Watermelon Fruit Spread
This spread contains 60% watermelon puree, which makes it a delicious summertime jam to tru out. While there is some added cane sugar, there’s also a tartness to balance things out from the cherry juice that’s been added as well. You can use it in a funky twist to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, glaze meats with it, or top a cake with it. There are really endless options with this one, so think outside the box.
If you’ve never heard of jicama before, it’s time for you to try one. Its flavor can be described a cross between a pear and kohlrabi, and it is truly wonderful. These wraps that are made of jicama are a great alternative for traditional wraps, especially if you’re trying to reduce calories. They are not meant to be heated up, so make sure you eat them raw. They can be slightly warmed, but not heated up.
Chocolate Lava Gnocchi
Okay, this one is a bit controversial, but we can all agree that it gets points for creativity. Who decided to take one of the best desserts out there and make it into gnocchi? Sweet gnocchi seems like a brilliant idea to us, and to make it a lava-style dessert just takes it to a whole other level. While a lot of people on the internet baulked at the idea, still plenty more loved it. It’s a you have to try it for yourself situation for sure.
Cinnamon Bun Spread
Trader Joe’s has always come through with interesting spreads, like its cookie butter spread that has taken over, as well as its pumpkin butter spread which is a delightful fall treat. So what about the cinnamon bun spread? The jar describes it as a “rich gooey honey butter spread with cinnamon bun spices.” What could go wrong there? You can enjoy it on toast, add it to your ice cream, or spread it on a bagel to sweeten it up.
Sweet Corn, Burrata, and Basil Ravioli
This lovely ravioli combines the sweetness of corn, creaminess of burrata, and sharpness of basil into one seriously satisfying bite. Cook them up with some butter, onion, garlic, and whatever else your heart desires. You can even add in some more corn, lemon zest, and toasted pine nuts to really take it up another notch.
