The people behind America’s favorite sandwich cookie got ahold of some land right down the road from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in order to build the Global Oreo Vault. And yes — it’s real.
According to a company representative the facility contains “the Oreo recipe and a large stockpile of cookies.” In case things go terribly wrong in the world, you can rest easy knowing that there is always a stockpile of the world’s best-selling cookie located at coordinates 78° 08’ 58.1” N, 16° 01’ 59.7” E.
While you might think that the vault is silly, the company actually somewhat agrees and even made a tongue in cheek YouTube video about the vault, with actors portraying Oreo executives. However, the vault is very much real.
According to an Oreo official statement: “As an added precaution, the Oreo packs are wrapped in mylar, which can withstand temperatures from -80 degrees to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and is impervious to chemical reactions, moisture and air, keeping the cookies fresh and protected for years to come.”
Although it seems like there is no real major threat coming our way, the people at Oreo are not taking any chances.
